The reboot of the Roger Corman-produced sword-and-sorcery franchise is slicing its way in this fall.
Shout! Studios has announced an October 10 theatrical release date for DEATHSTALKER, and unveiled a teaser poster (see it below). Written and directed by filmmaker/effects creator Steven Kostanski (FRANKIE FREAKO, PG: PSYCHO GOREMAN), it stars Daniel Bernhardt in the title role, along with Patton Oswalt (providing the voice of the wizard Doodad), Christina Orjalo, Nina Bergman, Paul Lazenby and Conor Sweeney. RUE MORGUE’s Rodrigo Gudiño and legendary guitarist Slash are among the producing team, and Kostanski’s Action Pants FX shop provided the copious practical creature and makeup effects. The synopsis: “The Kingdom of Abraxeon is under siege by the Dreadites, heralds of the long-dead sorcerer Nekromemnon. When Deathstalker recovers a cursed amulet from a corpse-strewn battlefield, he’s marked by dark magick and hunted by monstrous assassins. To survive, he must break the curse and face the rising evil. Death is just the beginning…of great adventure!” DEATHSTALKER has its premiere this Friday, August 15 at Switzerland’s Locarno Film Festival.
