A new alien is introduced in the New Orleans-lensed feature.

Uncork’d Entertainment has announced an April 1 release date for WELLWOOD on digital and VOD platforms. Directed by Eliza Hooper from a script by Reid Collums, it stars WHALE RIDER Oscar nominee Keisha Castle-Hughes, Lance E. Nichols, Camille Balsamo-Gillis and Collums, and features practical creature effects by Alec Gillis, whose credits include several ALIEN films, TREMORS, SMILE, PREY and many more. Gillis also served as executive producer on the movie. The synopsis: “When Laura Harper [Balsamo-Gillis] is diagnosed with a terminal illness, her husband Nick [Collums] becomes desperate to save her. His search leads to the discovery of an extraterrestrial entity that he believes holds the key to her cure. However, their actions soon attract the attention of local law enforcement, including the sharp-eyed Deputy Gracie Marsh [Castle-Hughes] and the town’s steadfast leader, Sheriff Bradley [Nichols]. As the couple’s choices unravel, they find themselves entangled in a web of consequences beyond their control.”

“Fans of sci-fi horror are in for something special with WELLWOOD,” says Uncork’d president Keith Leopard. “The film delivers a tense, emotional story with incredible performances and top-tier practical effects from the legendary team at studioADI. We’re excited for audiences to experience it when it debuts this April.”
