The classic thrillers are now being redone as a series for Apple TV+.

Variety reports that Amy Adams has been cast as one of the leads of CAPE FEAR, a 10-episode series for Apple based on the 1962 and 1991 films, as well as their source novel THE EXECUTIONERS by John D. MacDonald. Adams, most recently seen in NIGHTBITCH, joins previously announced Javier Bardem, and the official logline for the show is “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna [Adams] and Tom Bowden when Max Cady [Bardem], a notorious killer from their past, gets out of prison.” The “happily married” part sounds like a departure from the ’91 film, in which the leads played by Nick Nolte and Jessica Lange had a troubled relationship.

Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, who respectively directed and executive-produced the ’91 version, are among the exec-producing team here. Also part of that group are Adams and Bardem as well as Nick Antosca (CHUCKY, ANTLERS, CHANNEL ZERO), who is writing the series and will serve as its showrunner. The director/s have yet to be announced.
