International sales company EuroObscura has announced that SHIVER ME TIMBERS has been picked up by Gravitas Ventures, which has an April release set for the U.S. and Canada. The latest film to take advantage of a now public-domain character (and joining the upcoming POPEYE THE SLAYER MAN and POPEYE’S REVENGE), SHIVER ME TIMBERS takes its name from a classic cartoon featuring Popeye and his friends on a ghost ship, but tells a slasher story instead. Written and directed by Paul Stephen Mann, it stars Amy Mackie, Niamh Parrington, Brendan Nelson, Ross Dillon, Leona Roberts, Joel McDade, Yu Heng Li, Stephen Corrall, Paul Dewoney, David Hallows, Murdo Adams, Seb Lord and Anthony Greer. The synopsis: “In Northern California during the summer of 1986, Olive Oyl [Mackie], along with her cinema-obsessed friends and brother Castor [Nelson], embark on a once-in-a-lifetime camping trip to witness the dazzling meteor shower accompanying the arrival of Halley’s Comet. But what starts as a serene evening of stargazing quickly turns into a harrowing nightmare when a meteor from the comet transforms Popeye [Hallows] into a terrifying and unstoppable killing machine [Greer].”
