Great news for fans of the Big G and his most recent, standout vehicle.
Variety reports that Godzilla’s home studio Toho has announced the greenlighting of a new feature starring the classic kaiju. It will be written and directed by Takashi Yamazaki, the filmmaker behind last year’s GODZILLA MINUS ONE, which won worldwide raves and was a smash hit at the box office. It grossed $56.4 million in the States, becoming the third most successful foreign-language film and most successful Japanese-language film in U.S. history, and $116 million worldwide, landing as the highest-grossing entry in the Toho series. MINUS ONE also made history by winning Yamazaki and his team a Best Visual Effects Oscar, and the filmmaker is encoring in that position on the new movie as well. Plot details for this project, which will be Toho’s 34th Godzilla adventure, have not been revealed, though one assumes it will take off from the open ending of MINUS ONE. We’ll bring you more details as we find ’em out!
