Indie filmmakers Henrique Couto and John Oak Dalton have wrapped their second feature under the Midwest Film Venture banner, and it features a new take on a rural horror icon. We’ve got the exclusive first look at pics and the initial poster, plus words from the duo.
Following their collaboration on THE GIRL IN THE CRAWLSPACE (which we told you about here), Dalton wrote and directed and Couto produced SCARECROW COUNTY, which stars GIRL’s Chelsi Kern along with Rachael Redolfi and Tom Cherry. The synopsis: “SCARECROW COUNTY features a small-town librarian who is gifted the lost diary of a dead teenager, exposing long-buried secrets as a murderous scarecrow stalks the streets.”
“My first movie [as director] was more of a ’70s-style slow-burn psychological thriller,” Dalton, who has written a number of past films for Couto to helm, tells RUE MORGUE. “This one is straight-up full-color drive-in, with all the color gels and weird angles, plus ghosts, psychic powers, dream sequences and plenty of people running from pitchforks and machetes.”
“John’s sophomore feature is extremely exciting for the new muscles he’s flexing,” Couto adds. “His going in such a drastically different direction is something I can’t wait to help bring to life.”
SCARECROW COUNTY will be completed later this year and is targeted at a 2020 release. GIRL recently secured distribution for release later this year; keep your eyes here for the details!
