The deadly-vacation opus will world premiere at Fantastic Fest next month before going wide later this year.

IFC Films and Shudder have announced their acquisition of North American rights to the horror/comedy GET AWAY (originally titled SVALTA), with an exclusive theatrical release date of December 6. The movie will then debut on Shudder in 2025. Directed by Steffen Haars of the outrageous Dutch New Kids comedy team and scripted by SHAUN OF THE DEAD’s Nick Frost, it stars Frost along with Aisling Bea, Sebastian Croft and Maisie Ayres. The synopsis: “In GET AWAY, a family’s vacation to a remote getaway takes an unexpected turn when they discover the island they’re on is inhabited by a serial killer.”

“I’m thrilled GET AWAY has found a home at IFC Films and Shudder,” Frost says, “alongside the constant support and collaboration with Wayward Entertainment and the gang at XYZ. It’s such a good fit and a real relief knowing that GET AWAY is in such safe hands. I can’t wait for you to finally see it in theaters!”

Says Haars, “I am super hyped that GET AWAY found its perfect partner in IFC Films and Shudder to bring the film to North American audiences. We can’t wait to invite everyone on this killer trip with the Smith family to the unwelcome island of Svälta.”

“GET AWAY is a laugh-out-loud comedy that pours several buckets of blood onto a family’s sweet vacation in Sweden,” says Emily Gotto, SVP of acquisitions and production for Shudder. “This hilarious thrill ride will stir up laughs and scares in equal measure. Nick Frost revs up his horror/comedy expertise with the support of a strong ensemble cast and Steffen Haars’ playful directorial touch.”
