It’s a hell of a break for the STRANGER THINGS star’s feature writing/directing debut.
Neon has announced its acquisition of U.S. rights to HELL OF A SUMMER, scripted and directed by Finn Wolfhard and Billy Bryk, who also star in the film. The cast additionally includes Fred Hechinger, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Abby Quinn, Pardis Saremi and Julia Lalonde. The synopsis: “HELL OF A SUMMER follows 24-year-old camp counselor Jason Hochberg [Hechinger], who arrives at Camp Pineway thinking his biggest problem is that he feels out of touch with his teenage co-workers. What he doesn’t know is that a masked killer is lurking on the campgrounds, brutally picking counselors off one by one.”
HELL OF A SUMMER, whose release date has yet to be determined, joins a strong Neon horror slate that includes this summer’s LONGLEGS and CUCKOO, with Steven Soderbergh’s PRESENCE coming January 15, 2024 and Osgood Perkins’ THE MONKEY following on February 21. Further down the line are Chris Stuckmann’s SHELBY OAKS and THEY FOLLOW, David Robert Mitchell’s sequel to his hit IT FOLLOWS.
