It’s a chronicle of the man who called himself Britain’s “King of Sexploitation.”
Severin Films gave us the first look at the key art for DAMAGED: THE VERY BRITISH OBSCENITY OF DAVID HAMILTON-GRANT, a feature-length documentary that will appear in the 4K UHD/Blu-ray release of NIGHTMARE that we reported on this morning, as well as the trailer. Hamilton-Grant, who handled distribution of NIGHTMARE in the UK, was imprisoned for it in 1984; the art is based on the British poster, which bore the title NIGHTMARES IN A DAMAGED BRAIN (and is part of the reversible art on the 4K/Blu-ray). The synopsis: “Directed by Sarah Appleton (THE FOUND FOOTAGE PHENOMENON), DAMAGED explores the salacious career of mysterious British filmmaker and distributor David Hamilton-Grant, who was the only supplier to be sent to prison for releasing a ‘video nasty.’ Hamilton-Grant navigated loopholes in the law in the ’70s in order to produce and screen smut in an extremely censorship-restricted Britain. When the home video boom hit in the ’80s, he was one of the first to capitalize on the initially far less regulated format…but he would pay the price. Then things get really dark and strange. HOUSE OF WHIPCORD/FRIGHTMARE screenwriter David McGillivray calls Hamilton-Grant “the most notorious character in the entire history of the film industry.’ DAMAGED rakes it all up.”
The NIGHTMARE set will be available for pre-order this Friday, June 30 at the Severin webstore.
