’80s survival shocker “HUNTER’S BLOOD” now on 4K/Blu-ray from Red Shirt/Synapse; full details & art

Get lost in the woods with murderous poachers on fully loaded discs.

Red Shirt Home Video’s 4K UHD/Blu-ray release of director Robert C. Hughes’ HUNTER’S BLOOD is now available for purchase via Synapse Films, as well as DiabolikDVD, OrbitDVD and Vinegar Syndrome brick-and-mortar locations. Released in Britain in 1986 and the U.S. in ’87, and scripted by Emmett Alston (NEW YEAR’S EVIL) from Jere Cunningham’s novel, it follows a group of guys from the city (including Clu Gulager, Sam Bottoms and Joey Travolta) into the Arkansas forests. Their hunting trip turns into a fight for survival against maniacal backwoods dwellers (among them Billy Drago, Bruce Glover, HALLOWEEN’s Charles Cyphers and Billy Bob Thornton in his first screen role). The movie is presented on the discs in all-new uncut 4K restoration in 1.78:1 widescreen, with DTS-HD Master Audio of the original English 2.0 mono theatrical mix and an all-new 5.1 surround sound mix. Special features are:

  • Audio commentary by producer Myrl A. Schreibman, moderated by film historian Michael Felsher
  • Audio commentary by film historian and author Amanda Reyes and genre critic J.A. Kerswell
  • The Woods Run Red—The Making of HUNTER’S BLOOD featuring interviews with producer Myrl A. Schreibman, actors Mayf Nutter, Lee de Broux, Bryan Rasmussen and Gene Glazer and stunt coordinator Rawn Hutchinson
  • Audio interview with actor Bruce Glover, conducted by tough-guy film expert Mike Malloy (2006)
