RM EDITOR-IN-CHIEF OPENS ART SHOW AT FANTASIA
Imagine an alternative universe of Canadian horror movies that didn’t, couldn’t and maybe even shouldn’t get made… but we’d still love to see. RM’s Dave Alexander has brought together some of Canada’s most celebrated genre filmmakers, illustrators and designers to create If They Came From Within – a gallery of poster art for Maple Syrup genre films that don’t exist.
Join him for the gala premiere this Friday, July 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at La Cinémathèque Québécoise, as part of Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival (July 20 – 29), to see what happens when the imaginations behind such films as Hobo With a Shotgun, My Bloody Valentine, Father’s Day, Pontypool, Splice and Smash Cut intersect with acclaimed genre artists such as James White, Jason Edmiston, Ghoulish Gary Pullin, Justin Erickson, Vince Marcone, and more!

The Corridor Opens In Toronto This Week
One of the films that really chilled me to my bones at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal was a deliciously wintry psychological horror film called The Corridor. The directorial debut of Canadian filmmaker Evan Kelly, it snagged Fantasia’s Audience Award that night, and it’s finally getting a Toronto theatrical premiere this Friday at the Projection Booth Cinema (1035 Gerrard Street East), where it will play for at least a week-long engagement.
Written by Canuck scribe Josh MacDonald, The Corridor is about a group of buddies who convene at a cabin in the woods in an attempt to reconnect after suffering through a particularly traumatic experience together. Tension abounds until they stumble onto something mysterious out in that wilderness that not only binds them tighter than they’ve ever been, it also changes them forever. Unpredictable, gut-churning, bloody and bleak, The Corridor is an accomplished entry in the snow-covered pantheon of Canadian genre films. Support homegrown horror and check it out!
