The folks at Millennium Entertainment have given us an exclusive clip from Spiders 3D, full of creepy crawly, flesh-eating arachnid goodness. The latest film from Tibor Takács (The Gate) is getting its Toronto premiere at tonight’s CineMacabre movie night (9pm, Bell Lightbox Theatre in Toronto), complete with 3-D glasses, prizes and a Skype interview with the director! More details on the screening and a trailer here: http://www.rue-morgue.com/events/cinemacabre. Time to get creature feature crazy!
Rue Morgue’s Ghouls by Gaslight 15th Anniversary Halloween Party is going down tonight in Toronto! We’d love to see you there in person, of course, but we realize that isn’t possible for those of you who are far away and either can’t afford your own telepod or are turned off by the possibility of slowing morphing into Jeff Goldblum (seriously, he sneaks into the damn thing every time you turn your back). Until they get the kinks worked out, though, you can join us virtually!
Starting tonight at 10 p.m. ET, we’ll be streaming live video from the party here. You can enjoy Psychic Surgery, Carrie the Absinthe Fairy, Victorian Torture Harp Séance, our legendary Midnight Costume Contest, Haunting Hymns by DJ Eric Von Eric and Tomb Dragomir, and the wacky antics of host Twitch Couvier, all in the privacy of your home. Creepy? Maybe. Awesome? Definitely. Finally, you can join the Rue Crew without having to drink a single drop of Kiefer Sutherland’s blood. I knew I should’ve waited…
Behold the illustrated cover of our May issue, featuring this regal portrait of Dark Shadows’ Barnabas Collins (Jonathan Frid) by RM Art Director Justin Erickson. We gathered the cast of the original gothic soap opera to discuss the show’s enduring legacy, and then got director Tim Burton on the black and white-striped telephone to talk about his upcoming feature film adaptation starring Johnny Depp. On stands May 1! Also available for iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android platforms, PC and Mac for only $4.99.

In the past, I’ve made reference to the arcane patterns, strange coincidences and recurring themes that seem to surface in the midst of us putting together each issue of Rue Morgue. These common threads aren’t necessarily planned and usually aren’t even apparent until we’re in the advanced stages of production. But what happened this morning while we were proofing the RM Digital version of the April issue definitely takes the cake…
Is it just a coincidence that he’s a Carpenter and his initials are JC? Rue Morgue is proud to announce John Carpenter as a guest at the 2012 Festival of Fear (Metro Toronto Convention Centre, August 23 – 26).
