DVDs you wish got the red carpet treatment
for me it's Terror at Red Wolf Inn. Such an atmospheric film. I recall watching this on channel 11 in NY back in the early 80s and just being enamored with it. A few months ago I was able to find the DVD, but there were no extras. Not sure if any elements remain from this film, but if there are I'd sure love to see them. Also made me realize that I apparently really like Bud Townsend movies (this + Alice in Wonderland). If any of the cast is still around I'd love to hear some kind of commentary or short interview.
What are some other films you'd like to see treated on DVD as if they were put out by a major studio?

I really liked Coach and The Beach Girls. Didn't realize they were by the same guy as Terror at the Red Wolf Inn until just now.

The only thing that springs to my mind is Day of the Triffids. It's such a cool movie but AFAIK there are no good releases. The picture quality is perhaps the worst out of my entire DVD collection.
The extras are the trailer and a photo gallery, PRETTY LAME STUFF.
I don't know if it's just because it's public domain, nobody wants to put together a quality release or if somehow the surviving prints are all absolute shit. Either way, it's sad.

I'm kinda perfectly happy if they'd all come out on Blue Underground or Anchor Bay or someone like that personally, especially considering the craptacular releases of films like Creepshow and Phantasm II.

Not horror, but I always complain about the atrocious release of Claude Chabrol's Les Bonnes Femmes.
Poor print, crappy encode and positively no specials. A missed opportunity by Kino and an insult to the film.

I wish that Kolchak: The Night Stalker TV series would get a red carpet treatment. The barebones release from a couple of years ago could have been much better. I wouldn't mind seeing all of Dan Curtis' films given the red carpet.

I'm going to echo the Creepshow release. For such a landmark film it really doesn't get anything aside from a box with a picture on it.

The Birds. I'd really like a pimped put version of this with documentaries, commentaries, deleted/cut-scenes (if there where any??)
It was an important film for me because it introduced me to horror at a young age... scared the hell out of me because it struck me that something like swarms of murderous birds would be intense, given their numbers and how hard it would be to fight them off. Anyway, I'd really like to see this again... I just realized that I don't own it. Hmmm...
The Deep. Not horror, I know, but I also have a fascination with water/boats/shipwrecks/diving and this film is another that I saw when I was young and really stuck with me. Actually, I guess you could throw in The Poseidon Adventure as well.

I am PRETTY SURE that this has been released. At least I have the memory of all those things being on the edition that came in the red-velvet Hitchcock box. Presumably the separate version is the same?

To be honest, I've never looked into it...and I assume you mean The Birds? (I mentioned three films, hehe)
I get mental blocks, it seems. I can have a list of films I want in my head and when I go to a store to pick something up, draw a complete blank.

Creepshow dammitt!
That movie NEEDS to be released with a Romero, Savini, King commentary. Those guys aren't getting any younger.
And the Beatlejuice and Poltergeist 'special' editions weren't really that special. *sigh*

The old Gamera movies. All the copies I have are public domain style TV prints that are just in terrible shape.
I'd also cast my vote for a deluxe Creepshow release.

Leprechaun. Ok, not really.
Trancers. And Creepshow. The Blu-Ray of Kingdom of Heaven.

Dark Secret of Harvest Home. I've been looking in daylight with a flashlight (read: ebay, Amazon, Borders.com, etc.) for a DVD of any type. All I get are OOP VHS listings.

I'm dyin' for an actual worthwhile release of the Poltergeist films. A big ass documentary on the makin' of them would be sweet, dealin' with the subjects of "the curse" of the film, the director debacle of Hooper vs. Spielburg, the scenes that were shed from the script before filmin', unused ideas, and (what I'd be really interested in) a bit about Will Sampson's "cleansin'" of part 2's set to rid it of "evil spirits" (as mentioned on the E! True Hollywood Story a few years back).
Commentary tracks would be great as well. Heck, I'd even pick up the awful part 3 if they went all out like this.

Here's a selfish pick, Ninja of the Magnificence. Quite possibly the most insane martial arts movie ever made. Oddly enough it got a nod to appear on the UMD format of all things, but not even a DVD release was beheld of it.
Trust me on this one.
Also, Shock 'em Dead. If Black Roses can get a special edition then this could atleast make it to the format considering it's a far superior (and ridiculously awesome) movie.

As I've said in similar threads:
DEAD ALIVE, BRAIN-DEAD, Whatever you call this flick in your neck of the woods, I wanna see Peter Jackson's 1950's period zombie gross-out masterpiece get a super-duper-ultra-definitive-royal-collectors-mega-extreme-deluxe-to-the-god-damned-max-edition!
Remastered picture, remastered sound, big documentary on the creation, big documentary on the effects, new interviews with the cast and crew, director commentary, cast commentary, purdy new art work, deleted scenes, storyboards, shooting script, poster and stills gallery, on set home movies, soundtrack cd, fold out poster, lobby cards and just anything else available really.
..am I asking for too much?

I think Peter Jackson says he prefers the American cut though, so a longer version is unlikely for an R1 release. But, oh man, a 3-disc version of Dead-Alive would be tops.
This reminds me, I don't think Meet the Feebles has gotten a legit R1 release. I own a shitty bootleg but would like to have something with at least decent quality video. Commentary would be a good bonus.

I'm pretty sure there's a decent looking dvd of Feebles. I rented it a year or two ago at Blockbuster(!!).
I don't remember anything in the way of special features, but the movie looked a'ight.

The one I have is really dark and murky. No extras and it looks like shit. And it's an official release. I don't know which one you saw, but it must be newer than the one I have.

I own the Substance dvd and it's horrible. It was taken from a VHS copy. I wish Peter Jacksion would sue Substance because they also put out a grey version of Bad Taste here in North America that is horrible too.
I think there is a few classic films that i would love to see even get a good print on DVD.
Island of Lost Souls (1932) with Bela Lugosi
The Beast with Five Fingers (1946) with Peter Lorre
Uncle Silas (1947) with Jean Simmons
Blood and Roses (1960) classic lesbian vampire tale directed by Roger Vadim
Legend of Blood Castle (1973) directed by Jorge Grau --sorry but the new Mya version is pretty horrible.
and i will also second The Day of the Triffids (1962) and The Innocents (1961)

I really appreciate the suggestion, but this is someone's burned-at-home disc (they even mention cutting out commercials). They even tell you in the ad it's a DVD-r, shipped in a paper envelope. I was talking about someone in the studio coming up with a factory DVD with tons of extras, as the OP suggested.
However, as there seems to be no real alternative...I might have to take 'em up on it. Good lookin' out, clsnacky.

Massacre: Mafia Style
Just spent $35 on that ultra limited, only 500 copies pressed edition and it was the biggest fucking scam ever.
If that ain't duped from a 6th generation VHS, it's without a doubt the worst video master ever. An absolute abomination and the film deserves better. May Grindhouse get their hands on it.

I'm constantly disappointed by the generally barebones releases Hammer films get, with a few notable exceptions but it is getting far too late to rectify this. What really gets my goat is the disparity between the different region releases as far as extras go.

Collector sets of the early Peter Jackson movies Bad Taste, Braindead/Dead Alive & Heavenly Creature (I've no real love lost for Meet the Feebles) akin to the 4 disc extended editions of LOTR.
Right now i have the R1 97 min cut and am ordering the 104 min cut for cheap from the UK but I'd love a extras-filled remastered blu ray.
As outlandish as this sound, it is not unreasonable to want Criterion releases. criterion does have a soft spot for "shlock".
If you look through their catalogue there are a number of title that don't immediately spring to mind when one thinks of "Criterion" ( Equinox & the Monsters & Madmen set being prime examples.
Hell they even name dropped Tombs of the Blind Dead in their blog!
And as a label, Criterion does seem to have a thing for an established directors early work. Their upcoming release of Cronos is a prime example of all of the above.
I think the real issue (as is often the case) would be one of rights.
My other pick is non horror, but does have lashings of gure: Queen Margot.
The US release is cut, the French one is not complete and not English friendly.
To get an idea of what is cut from the US DVD here is US cover
& here is the French Poster
This is a beautiful, bloody historical epic that is begging for a lovely definitive, restored edition (in high def of course )
