Question Week, Part Three: The Dream Warriors (3D)
Well, I have to admit, I'm a bit surprised at the initial enthusiasm of Question Week's slasher-like return. I figured a handful of people would be excited for it, but not three and a half months' worth of people. I'm starting this new thread to post the initial schedule (please sticky it to the top of the forum, dear mod[s]), and will add to said schedule as Question Week (hopefully) expands. Also, as Question Weeks are completed, I'll update this link so people can easily pull up a person's thread. Here's the initial offering:
1/3 - 1/9: Pseudonymous
1/10 - 1/16: KISS Fan
1/17 - 1/23: bigmac64
1/24 - 1/30: Marquis de Sass
1/31 - 2/6: Melo
2/7 - 2/13: Dark Mark
2/14 - 2/20: Rovin
2/21 - 2/27: sorshavampyr
2/28 - 3/6: jaysaw
3/7 - 3/13: Velvet Kiss
3/14 - 3/20: Rage of Heroes
3/21 - 3/27: Count Whackula
3/28 - 4/3: Jesus Was A Robot
4/4 - 4/10: Scotty
4/11 - 4/17: PsychotronicFan
4/18 - 4/24: Mr. Monster
4/25 / 5/1: Nonsense
5/2 - 5/8: Jo Satana
5/9 - 5/15: spookykat
5/16 - 5/23: Torgo
5/24 - 5/30: meli4649
5/31 - 6/6: colum
6/7 - 6/13: Phantasmagoria
6/14 - 6/20: Beast King

Duh, I never said "I'm in " when I posted in the other thread, so if you can include me on the list I would appreciate it.

I thought it was a good idea to post this here for the newer members of the board..
A Killah Tomater Quote:
Quote:
For those of you newer board members, Question Week was your chance to get to know the people who frequent this fine corner of the interwebs, and for those same people to get to know you. Basically, how it works is this: people sign up to do a Question Week. I set up a schedule. When your week comes up (starting usually on Sunday), I start a thread and everyone asks you questions. You answer them. Easy-peasy!
Disclaimer: I will do my best to let posters know a week in advance that their Question Week is coming up, but it is the poster's responsibility to know when their week is. If something comes up (real life does have a tendency to get in the way of things), all I ask is that you give me enough notice to allow me to fill your spot and I'll reschedule you for a later time. No-shows will not be permitted another Question Week.

Does this mean people can still sign up (even though the schedule is already out to May)?
This question week is fun, I'd be interested...

I haven't been here much lately, but I plan on checking in on a more regular basis. I had fun the first time I did QW, and I'd like to do it again, if I can still get in!

Just a bit of housekeeping to do...
1) Next weekend finds me in Chicago for a Saturday wedding. While my wife and friends all have some sort of web access, that may still mean that meli4649's Question Week goes up a bit later than I'd like (perhaps as late as Monday). I don't want to short-change a QW, so if this happens, (mods) please give the thread an extra day before locking.
2) We are down to our last four Question Week victims. If you want Question Week to run a little farther, by all means, sign up. No pressure, but I'm more than prepared to play "Final Girl" on this beeeeyotch. And, no, I have no problem playing "Final Girl." I dress the part every Sunday anyways...wait, what?
3) For those of you who DID participate, you have my deepest gratitude. I truly did not expect this to run almost six months and, a few early missteps aside, it's been a blast.

I would LOVE a chance to bombard you with questions, KT. It would be awesome to have people like...oh...I don't know...Steve Vernon or The gore-met do a QW and end off with a bang?

I would love to interview any member of the Rue Morgue staff, and I think my beloved Surly Uncle Gore-Met would be a great subject. But we'll see.

Don't cry for me, m'man. Chicago is one of my three favorite cities (along with Boston and Toronto). The ironic thing is, I hate cold weather.

I guess certain places are more rosey to someone who actually gets to leave the state after thier business is through, right? There enough room in your carry on luggage to stash a 6'4" stunningly handsome horror fan who doesn't use the letter "G" that's located about an hour or so north of the city?
Hopefully it'll be nice weather for ya when you get here, seein' how the past couple'a weeks have been less than stellar in the temperature department. Just make sure to bring plenty of cash to feed those parkin' meters. They'll bleed you dry for sure.

I literally hop off the plane, take public transportation to the rehearsal dinner, an then am driven by a friend who rented a car or a van or sumptin'. So money's no worry, as far as that goes.
"Stunningly handsome?" Friend, you stay home. I don't need my beloved getting the wrong idea. Mr. Monster IS the jealous type!
(Wait, what?)

I'll do it. Not sure if that counts since I'm not a full-time staff, more like an in-bred cousin, freelance/staff hybrid type creature. And as long as everyone knows I'm not as fun as the Gore-Met, won't give up any trade secrets, and I won't answer every question, only the ones I think are interesting or funny. What say you?

Kind of harsh, don't you think? I haven't participated for the same reasons. It understand it's for fun and all, but a lot of it is not something I'm prepared to spend time on. As I don't want to spoil it for anyone else - or be called arrogant - I haven't signed up.

I fully understand the time constraints involved in doing something like this. If you use Mr. Monster's QW as an example, it can get kinda big. I'm not feeling the rush, though.
But I can only assume that, being that you're both regular contributors to RM, you'd be inundated with questions.
Is there an alternative that we can come up with? Like...maybe we start a thread in order to post questions and then someone impartial like KT or even Dave Alexander could select the top 20 or so that the rabble would like answered? Hell, that could even be done for all the RM staff.

I think that's a great idea - the Official Rue Morgue Staff Questions Thread. There can be directed questions or general ones. This way when we have questions, we can take them there and not sit in threads hoping SOMEone from the mag would drop by to answer whatever our question is.

If you don't want to spend the time on it, don't sign up. Not every board member has taken a run at it, for similar reasons I'm sure.
But to suggest that the members of this board spend a week trying to come up with questions that Liisa deems worthy of taking the time to answer... If that's not arrogant, please tell me what it is. Everyone else who has signed up has answered every question asked of them, and it's been a way for us all to get to know each other. I don't see why anyone would be any better than the rest of us.

As to colum and Torgo, many years ago when RM's former editor did Qauestion Week, she limited it to one question each. If the fear is one of being innundated with thousand's of questions, then that's a reasonable way to address the issue.

Agreed. But was that one question per forum member, or one question per post?

If it was one question per post, I think the inundation would set in right away, as someone would post a lot of separate questions.
Maybe, if a new thread gets started, limiting it to one question per member per month might keep things from getting out of hand.

Geez. I was kind of kidding. You call me arrogant. I call it "I'm actually kind of private about a lot of stuff and rather than say I won't answer any questions that make me feel uncomfortable I thought I would make a joke."
I wouldn't expect some kind of special treatment or Staff questions, I would do it as Mortuary Member. Or I would have. If people can't take that level of sarcasm, this is not the feature for me!
Carry on folks! Gore-met, you're up!

If I may say something. Y'know , as the guy who currently runs Question Week...
I'll be honest, because tone is impossible to tell in posts, I was a bit put off by L(8i)sa's initial post, which is why I've spent the better part of a day thinking of the proper response to it. But I've met L(8i)sa a few times, and have spoken to her enough to know where she's coming from as far as potential concerns go. I think L(8i)sa would be a fine interviewee, and would also serve as an example to other members of the Rue Crew (*cough* Gore-Met *cough*) as far as what to expect from the board members.
So I would personally like to extend the offer to L(8i)sa. I think it's safe to say, if you're willing to answer the questions posed by your co-members, that they will prove themselves capable of not acting like a buncha savages. I'd suggest looking at past weeks. The threads have been resoundingly civil.
Your call, L(8i)sa. You'd be more than welcome in my book. I'll even forgo asking "Am I Mark or David?"

But I'm going to withdraw. I've given it a day's thought of my own and think it's best I go back to lurking on Question Week. I do read it, because I'm a fan of Q&As. (The Proust Questionnaire is the first page I turn to in Vanity Fair, e.g.) I think the person who answers has as much to gain, learning about themselves, as the people asking/reading. But there are ALOT of questions in RM's Question Week and apart from the sheer time factor, I just don't think I want to address all of them in a public forum for various reasons of privacy and/or arrogance. And it seems that will piss people off. I can only imagine my smart ass answers would prompt similar pissed off-ed-ness.
I'm sure you can convince the Gore-Met to get on here at some point. As for me, I'm happy to answer any pressing concerns in person at FOF or otherwise. Come say hi anytime, I'm the one in black.

To be honest, should I be facing questions myself there are some things I wouldn't want to talk about, especially in a public forum. I'm all for openness but there are some topics I wouldn't want to go over.
Having said that, I think it's unfair to only want to answer questions that are fascinating. There's a fine line between being selective about what topics to discuss and which ones not to discuss, I guess, and so much of it is left to personal taste, really.

We have had a few staff members do question week and each one had different stipulations.
Jovanka had one question per member but some asked a few questions with no harm done. Someone even signed up just to ask her a really personal question only to be banned soon after.
John Bowen did it and stated that he would only be on the board every few days but that he would answer every question.
Nobody is forcing anyone to answer every question. If you think a question is too personal then you can just reply by saying something like I choose not to answer that right now. Or you could come up with something witty to say without answering the question. It is just something fun that brainbug started several years ago.
