The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror XX

Looks like FOX will be airing the 20th Treehouse of Horror on October 18th, 2009. That's early compared to previous years. They will be airing the previews all week.

•"Dial M for Murder or Press the Pound Sign to Get the Operator" - Bart and Lisa become involved in a murder scheme that parodies the Alfred Hitchcock films Psycho and Strangers on a Train.
•A segment that features elements of the films 28 Days Later and Children of Men where Krusty the Clown serves hamburgers made from "mad cows" and turns the citizens of Springfield into zombies. The Story's title will be a spooky name that rhymes with Children of Men.
•Homer's blood becomes a secret ingredient in a new beer brewed by Moe. It will be a Sweeney Todd-inspired musical segment.

While I'm SICK TO DEATH of their musical numbers (seriously, it was way too much in the last few seasons), I'll tune in for the zombie themed episode. The last time they did one (Dial Z For Zombies), the results were hysterical ("Excuse me, I'm John Smith." "John Smith, 1882?" "My mistake!"). So I'm hopin' for the same result here.

The last few Treehouse of Terror's haven't been that good. Hopefully this year's episode will be different. The preview looked really good. I just wonder how many people will miss it because it is on two weeks earlier than what it normally is.

Weird... A Treehouse of Horror's episode that a) airs before Halloween.. and b)goes back to parody horror films and stories...

Looking forward to this - hopefully serves up a memorable segment or two.

i believe that in the 90's they were all aired before Halloween, then for some reason this last decade they decided to show them in November instead, which was really dumb. i never understood why anyone would air a Halloween special after Halloween. anyway, yeah.. the last few haven't been that great. although i did kinda like that Charlie Brown spoof. hopefully this one will be good.

It was due to FOX gettin' the rights to show post season baseball I believe. Either that, or football. Some kinda sport.

I think the first 10 or so were aired on or before Halloween. It was when Fox got the rights to the World Series that they started showing this the first Sunday after Halloween. So all blame goes to the network and not the show.

Just to clarify - I wasn't shitting on the show itself for not airing the TOH specials prior to Halloween.... I know about the whole World Series deal...

I am just stoked they are looking like they are returning to more horror directed segments.... as yeah, lately it's been spoofs of Harry Potter, super-hero stuff, and generally non-horror.

I thought it was a pretty sold Treehouse. I thought the last one was the best, especially the more subtle humour of it being a play with all the possible mishaps that can happen. Gotta love Moe reading Homer's letter "in my handwriting, with my speech patterns and idioms - Dear Midge..." Gotta love Moe!

The first segment was alright, and the third, aside from a couple'a good jokes, I found to be awful (I hate their musicals). The second one though, that's the one I found to be the best, and a return to form. Then again, it dealt with zombies, so maybe I'm bias. The gag where the family leaves Apu to deal with the "munchers" after stealin' his car I thought was hysterical.

I pretty much totally agree with that. My gf looked at me during the first and third segments and said why are we watching this garbage? And she likes the Simpsons.

I liked the first segment and the opening segment. Moe had some funny lines during the third part but aside from that it was the worst Treehouse of Horror segment ever. I don't know why that was included in the Treehouse episode.
The second segment was easily the best.

Lame. Just like the show has been for the last few seasons.

First off I like the fact that played before Halloween and Second I the the first and second segements of the show. I did not like the thrid one as much. The funniest bit has be in "Don't have a Cow Mankind" where Apu gets out to push and leave him behind for the munchers or where Rainer Wolfcastle bust in and says " Come with me if you want to live" and promtly gets eaten by the munchers.

Like many others, I thought the first two segments were good but the third one pretty lame.

Not as good as previous seasons, but still better than most TV.

I liked the imagery and references in the first segment, but it was pretty lack luster. Much like everyone else, I also though the second segment was the best one. The third was pretty stupid, even by Simpsons musical standards.

The Family Guy episode that followed was funnier, and that's pretty sad.

Gotta agree with Nonsense on this one. While The Simpsons was merely okay, Family Guy was hilarious! I mean, c'mon. Roy Schieder gettin' a fake telephone number from Richard Dreyfus, then callin' 'em on it, and tellin' 'em he "doesn't have to be a dick about it"? Not to mention the entire Shawshank Redemption segment was awesome.

That episode blew The Simpsons outta the water.

I didn't see either one yet, but I hate "Family Guy"'s ultra repetitive format so much that I just don't want to believe it.

Simpsons wins overall due to a great legacy, but I laughed harder at that Family Guy ep. Note that this is not usual for me.

What I truly hate is that on Fox's 2 hour block of sunday night cartoons, 1.5 hours of it is Seth McFarlane. American Dad and Cleveland Show do NOT need to exist in the same universe (read: ours) as Family Guy.

The Cleveland Show is God awful. I managed to laugh once (at the Ike Turner Classic Movies bit), and snicker another time (when the little fat kid said somethin' like "You're comparin' my ass to a municipality?") at this episode. I keep watchin', hopin' that it'll get better... and 'cause there's nothin' else on the tube at that time, when all I wanna do is wind down for the day... but it never does. I should probably start readin' a book durin' that half hour.

American Dad though, I love that show. Took awhile to grow on me, but I find it funnier than Family Guy.

Do we really need one? I'm still upset that The Simpsons became mostly about how dumb Homer is sometime around Season 8. I used to watch The Simpsons religiously--both on Sunday nights and in syndication--but I haven't caught a new episode in years. As for Family Guy, although I think the repartee between the baby and the dog is pretty funny, it's a show that for the most part features everything I don't like about what the Simpsons became: pop-culture references in place of jokes, multiple plots that have little if nothing to do with each other crammed into one episode, predictably "outrageous" antics from Peter /Homer.

Rant over.

The zombie segment was great, but the rest was lame. They seemed to have forgotten the Halloween spirit over the past few years and just throw together some current crap they are talking about.
