Unearthed Films is scheduled to release its 3-disc Harakiri - Boobs & Blood Box Set in the U.S. on October 7th; the DVD set is available for pre-order from Amazon.com.

Harakiri - Boobs & Blood Box Set apparently contains the following six movies from Fuji Kikaku's "Zankoku-bi: onna harakiri" collection: Onna harakiri: sange (starring Yûri Sunohara), Jogakusei: harakiri (starring Hiromi Saotome), Onna harakiri: seisan (starring Sunohara), Shiro-shôzoku: harakiri (starring Saotome), 'Shitsurakuen': jôbafuku onna harakiri (a.k.a. "Lost Paradise"; directed by Masami 'Merzbow' Akita, starring Asako Mochizuki, and co-starring Chimuo Nureki, Toshirô Hasegawa, and Sunohara), and Bijo kenshi: futari seppuku (starring Sunohara and Saotome).

Here's a description from Unearthed Films of the movies in Harakiri - Boobs & Blood Box Set: "Attired in their favorite fetish wear, hot-blooded Japanese ultra vixens perform the most masochistic acts of self-sacrifice and submission. The traditional oriental art of Harakiri... Violating their young bodies in ritual self-immolation, they plunge razor-edged blades into their soft, naked flesh. A sea of sweet, red blood cascades as their all too brief lives ebb, and death embraces them."

Saotome also stars in Shûji Kataoka's S&M Hunter Begins (Sakasa tsurushi shibari nawa) - a.k.a. "Hageshii sex: ijô aibu" and "Jigoku no rôpâ 1" - and his sequel to it, S&M Hunter (Kinbaku · SM · 18-sai) - a.k.a. "'SM 18-sai': kurên chûzuri" and "Jigoku no rôpâ 2".

Got off the phone with DD earlier. They said the release date was delayed one day. Though my order STILL says "Pre-order" and it's been 2 days.... In any case, they don't have them in yet.

thats basically the plot. different outfits, situations, and settings. some in pairs some solo.
but the set appeals to fans of the guinea pig films, and other such films. but haters the the GP saga should maybe rent them, but not buy them.
the appeal, gore, shock, and morbid curiosity. really cant say more then that personally.
also fans of "Patriotism", that want more exploitive version of this, would be pleased.
also, the fact that one of the installments id made by a cult musician (Merzbow) will sell some copys.
(god feel like a name dropper in this post)

That's basically how I discovered the films and why I bought shitty bootlegs of them in the first place. I'm just happy to have a clean copy.

I've never seen any of the Guinea Pig films, but have been wanting too for a long time. I just cannot get myself to pay 100 bucks for a box set. Shit I had a guy offer to sell it to me for like 38 and he backed out of the deal at the last minute. I also tried to buy it on Amazon for 50 and the fucking seller claims he didn't even have it! So any suggestions as to where to get it for a descent price that will actually go through, let me know. I might check these out. I'm just hoping there is some depth to them other than just random suicide.

Watching one of the clips posted in the first post, with the girl fondling herself and moaning, it seemed pretty erotic. I haven't seen anything except that clip, but it strikes me that people could get their rocks off to these.

I did get it.

The digi-pack is very nice. The artwork is appealing and the thing seems well-constructed. Can't speak for the films themselves yet. My buddy and I intend to sit down to them on Friday after we get back from seeing Nosferatu with live musical accompaniment. (Be envious... be very envious...) I'll let you know after I see them.

For material of the similar nature but done a lot more artistically, you should check out Criterion's "Patriotism"(1966), features harikiri and was directed by a man who soon after commited harikari. There is also the new Mondo Macabro dvd, a violent roman porno entitled "Assault! Jack the Ripper!"(1976) Both titles just became available to region 1 this month.

Of any filmmaker pushing the boundaries of Nikkatsu's successful "violent pink" line of softcore pinku eiga films in the mid-'70s, no one did it with more style and less conscience than Yasuharu Hasebe.
