Not long ago, Warner Music announced a gigantic boxed set featuring Danny Elfman’s scores for Tim Burton’s films. The Danny Elfman and Tim Burton 25th Anniversary Box includes 16 CDs, and features previously released scores with unreleased cues and unreleased “oddities.” The retrospective is packaged in a zoetrope, and can be pre-ordered for (gulp) $499.99 U.S. + tax/shipping at the official site. Elfman recently spoke with the New York Times’ Dave Itzkoff in September, and Richard Kraft for Film Score Monthly last week.

As June comes to a close, I figured it handy to do a tally of current and upcoming horror and giallo score releases (digitally + CD). This will be a regular thing because it helps you and me keep track of what the heck is out there – which is substantial. I’ll update the list every two weeks (unless there’s a limited disc announcement that’s sure to result in fast sales), and also encourage readers to post details of upcoming titles I may have missed. (Those wanting non-blood-letting film score release news can also check out my other blog at mondomark.blogspot.com. The run-on sentences are bigger, and the blather is sometimes profound.)

When Rue Morgue associate editor Trevor Tuminski asked me to write a story on Dutch occult rock act The Devil’s Blood and their album The Time of No Time Evermore, I accepted eagerly because a) I needed the work and, more importantly, b) the band’s founder, Selim Lemouchi (known professionally as “SL”) is a Satanist, and as I discovered from my researches, a rather learned and eloquent one at that. This would be an interesting interview.
