Here’s a link (which may be broken, so you can also search for it on the Herald site under “In praise of Asian film exploitation”) to a story that ran in the Calgary Herald yesterday, in which I was quoted about Asian horror films. The story was a tie-in to the Calgary International Film Festival, which is currently on (and is showing Tokyo Gore Police).
I was at the fest most of the weekend; Rue Morgue co-sponsored the Friday late show of The Midnight Meat Train and I conducted the Q&A with director Ryuhei Kitamura afterwards, which was a blast. It was a packed house of enthusiastic horror fans (and as strong contingent of Rue Morgue fans too) in the beautiful, old Plaza theatre, a place that loves its genre fans.
Thanks for a helluva weekend, Calgary. I’m now continuing my vacation in Edmonton, so if you’ve been trying to get hold of me, be warned that I’m checking email sporadicaly. Too busy roping steers, cheering on the Oilers and rolling around in giant piles of oil money…
