Revulsion Unraveled

Revulsion is a cornerstone of “horror” and this Time article takes a fascinating look at some scientists who are getting to the bottom of how this evolutionary response works, and why. I really dig stuff like this, which explains how “horror” is hardwired into us.
Furthermore, why are certain people so repulsed by certain things that [...]

White Wedding / Black Christmas

Congrats to Rue Morgue writer and Canuxploitation creator Paul Corupe and his bride Alex Mlynek, who got married yesterday. An amazing buffet, open bar, great music (Johnny Cash: hell yes!) and a killer setting (Toronto’s Spin Gallery, which had all kinds of awesome and dark photography up on the walls) seriously bumped up the cool [...]

Guide to Summer Horror Movies

Firstshowing.net posted this guide to the summer’s horror fare, complete with synopses, stills and trailers.
I’m most interested in the 28 Days Later-inspired The Signal, ’cause I dig those world’s-gone-to-shit scenarios, which are so popular right now. The trailer that the article links to is crap, though — compressed and nonsensical. Here’s a decent one:

Rambo: First Gore

Everyone’s favourite revenge fantasy has returned, and it looks Stallone is going for gore this time around. The effects look pretty great in this trailer; gotta wonder if Grindhouse Releasing co-owner Sage Stallone has been influencing his old man. Anyhow, hopefully John Rambo won’t get too much guts caught in his mullet.

“Oh, you’re so COOL, Brewster!”

Bloody Disgusting has a post about Stephen Geoffreys’ return to horror. Stephen Geoffreys is best known for his role in Fright Night as main character Charlie Brewster’s best friend, the squeaky-voiced weirdo Evil Ed. Endless fun is had around the Rue Morgue offices doing impersonations of Evil Ed (Gary’s are the best).
The post at BD [...]

Why Sheep Don’t Celebrate Halloween!

Beyond Purple People Eater

It never ceases to amaze me how many horror-themed retro novelty songs are out there. Today Boingboing posted a link to a very cool blog hosted at drmysterian.com called The Essential Ghoul’s Record Shelf, which features mp3s and write ups of obscure and wacky monster tracks, such as the groovier than groovy “Dracula’s Daughter” from [...]

The Girl Next Door trailer

For those of you looking forward to the filmic adaptation of Jack Ketchum’s The Girl Next Door, the trailer is now available for viewing at the film’s official website.

“Action. Suspense. Emotion”

According to this Rotten Tomatoes article, Robert Rodriguez is making a straight-to-DVD feature-length version of Machete. It’s about time Danny Trejo got a high-profile ass-kicking action hero role.

Now, “Where are my wife and daughter?!”
On a related note, watching this trailer again I realized that no director, aside from maybe Sam Peckinpah, liked Gatling guns more [...]

For Obvious Reasons…

…I find this hilarious.
