More Grindhouse Fun in T.O.

If you’re in the Toronto area, you can catch some grindhouse-style double bills playing on weekends over the next six weeks. The double-dose of classic Cronenberg is cool, but I’m not sure that contemporary French horror film Haute Tension really works in the mix. Hopefully they’ve got some slightly less-on-the-radar programming on the horizon. Regardless, though, it’s great to have the opportunity to see some these films on actual film. Unless, you’re not in the Toronto area. Then it’s a big fat slice of misery pie for you, my friend. With two scoops of regret on the side. Yeah, that’s exactly what it’s like.
This April, exploitation film returns to Toronto. To coincide with the release of Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse, Napoleonic Theatres Ltd. has programmed six weeks of exploitation films. On Saturday April 14th, Napoleonic Theatres Ltd. will begin a weekly Grindhouse screening at the Brunswick Theatre. The opening night will feature David Cronenberg’s Canadian horror classics, Shivers (8pm) and Rabid (10pm). The theatre is located at 296 Brunswick Ave., west of Spadina Ave. and south of Bloor St. The films will be preceded by a short film. The admission is $15 for the double bill or $10 for a single film.

I hope this gets extended because I’d love to make it up there for a showing.
