SDCC BREAKING NEWS: SAM RAIMI announces THE LAST OF US film & EVIL DEAD TV

on July 25, 2014 | 1 Comment

This just in from San Diego Comic-Con: In a surprise appearance today, Sam Raimi announced that he is joining forces with Screen Gems on a film adapatation of the best-selling and critically acclaimed video game, THE LAST OF US. Joining Raimi in bringing Naughty Dog‘s apocalyptic survival story to the screen is Neill Druckman, the driving force behind the game that Rue Morgue chose as the Best of 2013. During the panel, the two announced a potetnial casting choice: GAME OF THRONES’ Maisie Williams (Arya) has been mentioned as in the running for the role of TLOU’s female protagonist, Ellie.

But (as the ads say) wait, there’s more! Raimi then went on to announce the development of a TV series based on…. wait for it… THE EVIL DEAD. There’s only two details confirmed for this potential series:

1) Sam and Ivan Raimi are developing the series’ bible.

2) Bruce Campbell will star.

We’re just going to let that soak in.

We would also like to take the time to congratulate Mr. Raimi on receiving the SDCC Inkpot Award , awarded each year to “professionals in the fields of comic books, comic strips, animation, science fiction, and related areas of pop-culture.

Thanks to Rue Morgue Editor-In-Chief, Dave Alexander for the scoop ( and photos from today’s panel ). Keep your eyes peeled here as we continue to bring you more coverage of this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

One Response to SDCC BREAKING NEWS: SAM RAIMI announces THE LAST OF US film & EVIL DEAD TV

  1. First off, just why is it that a lot of those GAME OF THRONES stars are getting lots of film roles, for is GAME… that damn good for its stars to deserve receiving high profile big screen roles ?

And that planed EVIL DEAD TV series sounds interesting, for we’ll see how far they can go with it(since current TV shows allow the splatter and gore to massively flow).
