Imagine an alternative universe of Canadian horror movies that didn’t, couldn’t and maybe even shouldn’t get made… but we’d still love to see. RM’s Dave Alexander has brought together some of Canada’s most celebrated genre filmmakers, illustrators and designers to create If They Came From Within: An Alternative History of Canadian Horror – a gallery of poster art for Maple Syrup genre films that don’t exist.

Join him for the gala premiere this Friday, July 20 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at La Cinémathèque Québécoise, as part of Montreal’s Fantasia Film Festival (July 20 – 29), to see what happens when the imaginations behind such films as Hobo With a Shotgun, My Bloody Valentine, Father’s Day, Pontypool, Splice and Smash Cut intersect with acclaimed genre artists such as James White, Jason Edmiston, Ghoulish Gary Pullin, Justin Erickson, Vince Marcone, and more!

Click here to “Like” it on Facebook and don’t miss the two related Fantasia panels, If They Came From Within, and A Look That Kills, which will discuss the importance and power of poster artwork in movie marketing.

  1. Hi. I am an out of pocket movie maker working in the sci-fi genre, and went further than a movie poster. I wore every hat (to one degree or another)in making 6 FOR 7 (feature). It was turned down by all of the 23 festivals submitted globally, but won the following awards: (All based in California)

    1. Award of Merit (Experimental, originality – Creativity) – 2012 Accolade Competition

    2. Best of Experimental Films – 2011 California Film Awards

    3. Honorary Mention – Director – 2011 Los Angeles Movie Awards

6 FOR 7 was shot completely in Ottawa (I am from Ottawa) out of pocket for $9,000 in miniDV.

The link at IMDB should you be interested (I stopped submitting, and 3 awards is enough for me):
