I’d love to say that no animals were harmed during the making of this podcast but it wouldn’t be true!
Last Chance Lance and his intrepid squirrel Little Chris!(?) join me to read some of your letters and to giveaway three copies of the horror anthology THE THEATRE BIZARRE currently out on home video courtesy of IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT.
Endure,

I would call the documentary you describe an Exhumentry.
Until recently I would have said that Tales From The Crypt is my favourite anthology film but it is now Dead Of Night (1945) – A classic British anthology which inspired everything Amicus made.
An appropriately succinct name for feature length documentary film behind the scenes ultimate background indepth insiders upclose gander a la mode filmmaking should be called “FilmDoc” (which I thought of when I listened to FEEDBACK’s interview with David Gregory and NOT when Lamp said shot rot er whatever)
Also, my favorite anthology is CREEPSHOW, duh \m/
Yes, Dark Mark. DEAD OF NIGHT is excellent. It’s high time for a revisit.
And Meli. I think Lamp said, “Shock Doc!”
Last Chance Lance as DAVROS.
I think an appropriate term would be: Docography.
Since Halloween is my favorite holiday, I’m going to pick Trick ‘R Treat as my favorite horror anthology. Each of the individual stories are eerie and grotesque with a dash of humor, and I love that they are able to take a few seemingly innocent and silly ideas, and turn it into something charming and believable but still scary. I also love how it all ties together so perfectly in the end – and, I think we can all agree Sack Boy is fucking adorable.
I would just call it a “production chronicle”. Not very snappy, I realize, but I assume we’re not just limiting this to the horror genre. You probably wouldn’t call a feature on the making of Pretty Woman a “shockdoc”.
As for anthologies, Trick ‘R Treat is one of my favorite movies of ANY genre in a long time, so it’s definitely got my vote for fave anthology.
If I win Theatre Bizarre, I’ll take a Blu-ray.
It’s tough coming up with a name, but the name I could think of right now is doc-o-rama, docorama, doc-u-rama, or docurama.
The best horror anthology is unquestionably Black Sabbath.
I’ll take blu-ray.
Yes. It IS tough coming up with a name. I suppose that’s why none have materialized yet that have stuck. Hopefully, we can change all of that with this contest.
Ah, Trick R’ Treat! Yes, that was a most excellent anthology
Hmm, I kinda like that docurama suggestions. Maybe marry it with my entry for FilmDocurama? Sounds like something William Castle would come up with :p
I’d probably go with Cinementary.
Amicus made the best anthologies, and my fave of those is probably Asylum (the one with Peter Cushing’s sparkly reanimation suit, the mini automaton Herbert Loms, etc).
Theatre Bizarre sounds like it’s definitely worth a watch (especially on Bluray), haven’t seen a Richard Stanley film since Dust Devil.
Cinemantary? I like it.
Asylum? Hmmm…..it’s ok. Not my favourite Amicus anthology however.
Screechurette?
I loved Amicus’ Tales From the Crypt.
How about CineDoc?
Again, put me down for Blu-ray.
I’m going with Film Manufeature. In regards to horror, Film Manufreakture.
My favorite horror anthology has NutNcato be the one I saw at the drive-in in ’82, CREEPSHOW.
Saw Theatre Bizarre once already thanks to Netflix. Definitely enjoyed it.
As a big fan of those old Fulci flicks, it was awesome seeing Catriona MacColl in Mother of Toads.
But I think my favorite segment was actually the wrap-around. Just loved the tone and the look of it, plus Udo Kier’s creepiness. I didn’t even recognize him until his second appearance.
Theatre Bizarre can probably stand its ground on a list of the best anthologies, although I don’t think I have enough perspective on it yet to really rank it.
Trick ‘R Treat is definitely my all-time favorite of the genre. I can put that movie on at noon in the middle of July, and it feels like Halloween night.
Plus, it has one thing going for it that most anthologies don’t: None of the segments feel like they end too abruptly or unsatisfactorily. It’s just a perfect intermingling of stories that all tie together tidily into a snapshot of a single night.
When it’s over, you’re left feeling like all happened as it should have, everyone got what they deserved and Sam can go wherever he goes the other 364 days of the year, safe in the knowledge that the sanctity of the dark side has been well preserved.
Or something like that.
Ugh. My comment should read, ” My favorite horror anthology has to be the one I saw at the drive-in in ’82, CREEPSHOW.”
I know it’s probably obvious but I had to exorcise the demon that plagued me so. That’s what I get for typing on my chone… er, phone.
Yeah, I was wondering what a “NutNcato” was.
That’s what you get for using an iChone.
Actually, it’s a ‘Roid (being a pain in the ass). To further my humiliation I posted my correction to Nick’s comment. I hang my head in shame.
That is unless “NutNcato” is a great name for a feature length making of documentary for a film. I made that s#*t up!
I would call that style of documentary on DVD a “spectral feature”
While I do agree with Feedback that Amicus’ “Tales from the Crypt” is an excellent film (I was especially disturbed by “Blind Alleys” scene at a young age) I have to place a different Amicus anthology on the top of my list – 1973′s “From Beyond the Grave”.
Amicus always did it best.
Blu or DVD are equally fine.
Spectral Feature? Very clever.
Favorite horror anthology would be “Waxwork”(1988)
Simply because it was one of the first horror movies as a kid i really liked.
Documentary title i think would maybe be “”All The Bloody Ways”
Don’t know how on the mark that would be but i gave it a shot.
Unnecessarily Gratuitous Last-minute Information Exposition. (UGLIE)
I’m with Nick English…Trick ‘R Treat is the best anthology.
BlueRay rocks.
P.S. That wanker Lance does look superb as Davros.
An UGLIE? That’s funny. I’m gonna use that….
But while that definitely describes many a tacked-on DVD extra, it certainly doesn’t describe the sort of work Mr. Gregory does. But you get bonus points for coming up with a useful acronym!
Cool! Thanks Feedback!
Feedback–thanks for your kind words on the latest show about my Unnecessarily Gratuitous Last-minute Information Exposition (UGLIE) entry. Sorry I wasn’t picked as a winner. Damn you Lamp! I want to add that my name is Pilate as in Pontius–not Pilates as in the girlie exercises. The screen name is after the series of thriller novels I write, which includes “Pilate’s Cross,” “Pilate’s Key” and the upcoming “Pilate’s Ghost.” Click on my Screen name for details. Keep up the good work…I’ll be listening!
