Women In Horror Recognition Month is almost over and so ends our mini-series of Women in Horror profiles. But don’t worry, we’re going out with the podcast equivalent of a thermonuclear explosion.

My guest on this episode proves that women in horror can not only be young and sexy, but super-smart and able to kick arse in a wide range of nefarious exploits. So it gives me great pleasure to present for your listening enjoyment Ms. Andrea Subissati (a.k.a. Hellbat), a bonafide force of nature and the author of When There’s No More Room In Hell: The Sociology of the Living Dead.

And it occurred to me during the run of this series that the landscape of horror fanaticism has markedly changed in the last ten years or so. I think a lot of the most exciting, enthusiastic and educated voices currently screaming about horror from the rooftops of cyber space belong to women. And I boldly predict that in about ten years from now, women will be the dominant force in the genre.

I seriously hope so. Because the American horror film is practically dead and I’m bored to tears with most of the nonsense issuing forth from that once great nation. The endless assault of sequels, remakes, reboots, re-imaginings, re-envisionings and regurgitations are making me seriously fucking PUKE. So I say it’s about time to admit defeat and hand things over to the girls.

So for that reason alone, EVERY month is Women In Horror Recognition Month here at the Rue Morgue Podcast.

The Day of the Woman is at hand……

I enjoyed every minute of that.

  2. Feedback says:

I had a feeling you would! Thanks for checking it out.

  3. Mike Tank says:

The very best interviews you’ve done on these shows are the ones where the guest is so engaging and the conversation between the two of you is so insightful and engrossing, that I find myself wishing I was there because I keep wanting to jump in and express how much I agree (or even disagree) with the discussion of the topic at hand. With that as the criteria, this chat with the awesome Ms. Subissati ranks as one of my all-time favorites. There’s so much covered here that I wish it could have continued long after it ended. You have to have her on again. Endlessly fascinating. My favorite part, though, was her respone to your question of why NIGHT ranks as her all-time favorite zombie film. After all the analysis and intellectual deconstruction, for her it still just came down to one very simple reason: “Because it was scary!” Awesome. That girl was totally rad. Have her on again. Often. Keep it up, my man!

I didn’t lie when I referred to her as a ‘force of nature,’ did I? But yes….she WILL return. And as always, thanks for your comments Mike and for your enthusiasm for the show – and for being one of the few listeners who’s SAVVY enough to realize that posting on the BLOG is the preferred mode of discourse!

(I’m gonna have to get YOU on the podcast soon……….).

  5. Jeremy James says:

I just listened to the last episode of the Rue Morgue Podcast, I believe it was RM-007. Awesome show by the way, you guys have great chemistry on the show and never cease to make me laugh. I was wondering can you tell me where I can find that extremely creepy song you played at the end with the children singing at the first? That is one hell of a nightmare song. I have to find it!!

Keep up the great show guys. Your interviews have been mind blowing. So far my favorite has been the one with Tom Holland. Fantastic stuff. Listening gets me through my boring work day. I only wish you were on more often.

  6. Feedback says:

Jeremy! Thanks for your comments. MUCH appreciated.

The song I played is the FANTOMAS version of Rosemary’s Baby. It’s on their DIRECTOR’S CUT album.
